Put Your Tax Refund to Work and Enhance Your Home's Curb Appeal
It’s that time of year again…tax season. The dreaded April 15 deadline also means its spring, and time to start thinking about how your home looks from the outside. If filing taxes means a return for your family, reinvesting that money in home improvements is one option that could have a valuable outcome. We've come up with three ways you can improve your garage this spring, whether your tax refund is small, medium or large in size.
Small
Even a refund of $500 or less can go a long way to improving the look of your garage. Think spring cleaning. Start by getting the clutter out and organizing what’s left. A good floor scrubbing and a couple of shelves will make a big difference too. It’s also a good time of year to contact your local Overhead Door distributor to schedule an annual maintenance inspection. Keeping your door running properly year-after-year can save time and money in the long run.
Medium
For those expecting to get a little more back from Uncle Sam this year, consider enhancing the curb appeal of your home by replacing your garage door. According to REMODELING’s annual Cost vs. Value report, a mid-grade garage door replacement will provide a homeowner with a return on investment of nearly 76 percent. In fact, of all of the home improvements studied, mid-grade garage door replacement, with an average cost of $1,500, was the second-best ranked project for returning value when spending less than $5,000.
Large
If your refund is a bit more sizeable this year, an upscale garage door replacement also has a high return on investment. The average cost of an upscale garage door replacement is $2,700 and according to the Cost vs. Value report has an ROI of about 75 percent for the homeowner.
Don’t stop with a garage door upgrade. Be sure to focus on other curb appeal enhancements like trimming trees, planting a garden, updating the mailbox or even putting a fresh coat of paint on the front door.
